About Juniper Midwifery

Kasha deroos LM, CPM

Since 2017, I have had the privilege of serving families in the CDA and Spokane area as a doula, midwife apprentice, and midwife. I trained under the traditional apprenticeship model and deeply value continuing education while growing my skillset. In 2021, I took my NARM examination and earned my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential. I became a licensed midwife (LM) in Idaho in January 2022 and shortly after, was licensed in Washington. With over 350 births attended in varying capacities (birth center, home birth, and hospital based doula settings), I have honed my skills.

The core of my midwifery philosophy is honoring my clients' autonomy, educating them on their options, and ensuring true informed consent. As a midwife, I am able to live out my values: advocacy through education, serving my community, being a small piece of fixing a broken system, and ministry that celebrates true human connection.

Outside of midwifery, I enjoy spending time with my very spirited daughter and our Australian shepherds. I can often be found at a concert, delving into a new book, or hiking Northwest gems.

Payton Myers, Senior student

Hi! Iā€™m Payton, a compassionate midwife assistant whose journey into the world of birthing support began as a doula. My path has been guided by a profound love for supporting individuals and families during the transformative experience of childbirth. I believe in the importance of fostering a nurturing environment where individuals feel empowered, respected, and supported throughout their birthing journey.

In my personal life, I find joy in being with my husband and our delightful 4-year-old, whose own birth inspired me to continue to give the care I received. Although we have spent the last 7 years moving around the US, we are finally calling the PNW home again, enjoying all the outdoor adventures, good food, and family close by. Our bond serves as a source of inspiration and grounding, driving me to extend that same level of care and compassion to my clients.

I feel blessed to work alongside incredible individuals in the birthing community. My dedication to creating a supportive and empowering birthing experience for families shines through in all I do, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of those I serve.

Our Philosophy

Birth is a beautiful and natural process that should be celebrated, nurtured, and normalized with a family-centered approach. At Juniper Midwifery, we blend the ancient art of midwifery with up-to-date, evidence-based practices to offer guidance, support, and compassionate care to families as they navigate their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. We believe that birth, when left undisturbed, will most often work.

Our practice is based on holistic midwifery care, which means that we ensure each appointment has enough time to check the physical well-being of both parent and baby, offer educational resources, and provide access to a robust lending library. We also spend time developing a heartfelt connection with our clients to ensure they feel seen, heard, and comfortable throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

At Juniper Midwifery, we understand the importance of continuity of care. That's why we offer one-on-one, individualized midwifery care. You will know your midwife well and she will be there to serve you throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period. While we are blessed with a community of midwives who offer support to ensure care is comprehensive, we prioritize and specialize in providing personalized care to each of our clients.

Olli Gluskin, Birth assistant/student

After many fulfilling years cultivating organic vegetables on the farm, I transitioned into the realm of birth work as a Doula and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist. This shift has allowed me to channel my deep passion for supporting families during the profound journey of childbirth with a blend of tenderness, warmth, and empathy. Engaging in birth work resonates with the core of my being, continually fueling my personal growth and sense of purpose.

For the past 15 years, I have found solace in the Pacific Northwest's lush evergreen forests, meandering rivers, and the endless opportunities for exploration. I am a parent to awesome 9 and 5 year old boys, and a 17 year old bonus kiddo.

Laureeann Fee, Birth Assistant

My name is Laureeann, and I am happily married to my best friend, with whom I share the joy of raising two wonderful sons. My deep-rooted interest in birth and breastfeeding has always been a passion of mine, driving me to explore ways to support families during their transformative journey into parenthood.

The birth of my first son at the hospital was a life-changing experience that sparked a fire within me. It was a moment of profound realization that I wanted to be a guiding presence for families as they welcomed, nourished, and nurtured new life. In January of 2021, I became a certified doula and embarked on my journey of attending births, offering compassionate support and care to families during their most vulnerable and miraculous moments.

As a birth assistant, I am eager to continue learning and growing, dedicated to serving families with compassion, empathy, and respect. Outside of attending births, I find solace and joy in spending quality time with my family, immersing myself in reading, and exploring the art of cooking. Each day brings new opportunities for growth, connection, and the fulfillment of my calling to support and empower families on their unique birthing journeys.
